Slavery In America

There is a growing problem in the United States that centers itself within the trucking industry, specifically truck stops. We want you to be aware of the tragedy of young girls caught in the human trafficking industry. Read the following testimony and call us if you want to help: “I just want to go home and live like a normal kid with friends, texting, music, and basketball games. I didn’t choose this kind of life for myself. I’m forced to do this, and I fear for my life if I don’t.  If I were your fifteen-year old daughter, which would you choose for me: a life of sexual slavery or a life of childhood freedom? You could help me by making one simple phone call to the Human Trafficking hotline: 1.888.3737.888. Give them my location, what I look like, a description of the truck I was in - anything that could help them rescue me.” Will you please be aware of the wellness of others? Comment here.

No Nine to Five Schedule

I was often impressed with the ways my neighbor supported and accommodated her husband’s truck driving schedule. It wasn’t easy as he could get called out any time of the day or night to make a delivery run. She would prepare a good meal at odd times of the day so he could begin his trip with a full stomach. She reserved the days he had off so they could be together. When he only came home at three in the morning, she would often put off something as simple as doing laundry so the noise would not disturb his sleep. How do you and your family cope with schedules that are not the typical nine to five? If you plan ahead and are considerate, you will be able to support your spouse, contribute to his or her wellness, and enhance your family life. Let us know if we can help. Comment here.

Define Addiction

There are many definitions for the word addictions which range from the compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal, to being abnormally tolerant to and dependent on something that is psychologically or physically harmful or habit-forming. Addictions to some form of illegal substance, tobacco, or alcohol are the most commonly referred to, but there are many other things that one could be addicted to. Things such as food, pornography, and the internet are just a few. Is there anything in your life which has become an abnormally strong craving you think you can’t live without or can’t get rid of? Let us know. We’re here to help. Comment here.

Take It Easy

After surgery, I was surprised to find that the recovery took a little longer than I expected. Some days were better than others as I tried to take it easy and not over do things. I was reminded more than once to rest, especially when I tried to push myself too hard. It’s hard to be idle when there is work to be done, but it’s wise to take time to recoup when we need to. Driver, are you pushing yourself too hard? Take some time to relax. Add some down time to your schedule. Comment here.

Help Stop the Nightmare

As we address your emotional wellness on this site, we want you to know that sometimes it’s also about the wellness of others. Read the following testimony: “I am not a prostitute or a lot lizard. I’m a fifteen year old kid. ‘Danny’ took me from my home to rescue me from my step-father. Only I went from one nightmare into another. I didn’t choose this kind of life for myself. ‘Danny’ forces me to do this, and I fear for my life if I don’t. When you see me being passed from truck to truck, please don’t pretend you don’t notice what is going on. Phone the Human Trafficking hotline: 1.888.3737.888 and give them my location, what I look like, a description of the truck I was in - anything that could help them rescue me.” Driver, be aware of those around you. Let us know what you think. Comment here.

Create an Awareness of Your Habits

Every Saturday morning, bright and early, when I was growing up my dad would take me to the doctor to get an allergy shot. I was extremely allergic to trees, flowers, pollen, cats, dogs and many other things Since then, I’ve learned how to deal with my allergies and now know what to avoid and when to avoid it. Some of our bad habits are similar to allergies. They can cause us to not feel good at times, and they seem to come around on a regular basis. Our habits can be like allergies, but if you learn what areas you need to avoid and get to know certain times they seem to appear, handling them will be easier, and you’ll feel much better. Counterbalance

Most tractor trailers today must weigh beneath eighty-thousand pounds. The front tires on the tractor must not weigh over twelve-thousand pounds and the two back tires must not weigh more than thirty-four thousand pounds. Just like these trucks, we, too, must have an even balance in our lives to function properly. Do you sense that something is off-kilter in your life? Give us a call. Comment here.

Phantom Pain or Real?

It’s the time of year when outdoor activities, such as planting a garden or cleaning and polishing your rims and tanks, begin again. For some of us, along with these activities and chores, comes back pain. Or maybe you have an emotional ache that creeps up on you. This kind of pain can come at any time of the year and isn’t subject to working outdoors. Have a plan, or remedy if you will, when these times come. Are you prepared? Comment here.

Got Food? Check. Got Clothing? Check. Got Wellness?

When you take a trip, whether it’s a wilderness hunt in Wyoming or just a short weekend camping trip with your family, a lot of preparations need to be made for the journey. Truck driving, which often feels like the wilderness, is no different. We need to prepare for everything we will encounter while out on the road. Obviously, we prepare for things like food, money, clothes, personal hygiene and log books. But have you spent any time preparing yourself emotionally, physically or spiritually? They certainly don’t teach you that in driving school. Don’t leave home without this preparation. If you’re not sure what those things are, give us a call. Comment here.
